Validation of new Kéo Power power measurement system

Project: research project in cooperation with Polar & Look

Period: 2011

For month, Polar® and Look® in worked together in a Joint Venture Project on the development of a new power measurement system. The result is the Keo-Power System equipped with force sensor in both pedals. The Radlabor as international expert for bike biomechanics was assigned by both companies, to scientifically test and analyse the system.

We compared the Keo Power System in the laboratory and in field test under various conditions with the SRM and the powertap system.

The results will be presented in an international media conference together with the companies Polar & Look in late january.

Aquacycling

Project:              Project Radlabor/Fa.Nemcomed (Aquarider®)
Time period:       in progress

Depending on aquajogging, aquacycling is the latest fashion in the area of rehabilitation and fitness. What effect has cycling in water to the heart-circualtion-system, metabolism and muscles? Is it comparable with cycling on land or is it totally different? Can cyclists benefit from the new training method? Together with the company Nemcomed we try to answer these questions in our latest research project.

Polar CS 600

Project:              Training Study Radlabor / Fa. POLAR
Time period:       04/2007 - 09/2007

The Radlabor scanned in detail the new cycling sensor from the company POLAR.  Therefore 30 very sportive cyclists had to check all functions over a duration of 8 weeks. Before the testing and afterwards our subjects had to take part on a performance analysis to see the effect of training data in addition to normal training. The results are extremely fascinating...

Sitting Position Comfort

Project:                    Project Radlabor
Time period:             in progress

The objective of this study is the development of measuring techniques to optimise the comfort aspect of the position on the bike. The focuses of the study are orthopaedic and health criteria...

Mobile Pedal Force Measurement

Project:               Project Radlabor
Time period:        in progress

The measurement of pedal forces outdoors is the object of our recent development. It’s a huge challenge to use our highly sensitive measuring technology on the streets...

Interval Training in Cycling

Project:               Project Radlabor
Time period:       04/2007 - 12/2007

This study focuses on developing control parameters for training in anaerobic metabolism zones using various test and interval training methods on the SRM-ergometer.

Endurance- and Strength Training

Project:              Scientific Thesis Radlabor
Time period:       06/2006 - 12/2006

How much weight training does a cyclist need? Although this question is very old there is still no definite answer. A comprehensive literature analysis summarises the current understanding and research on the topic of interactions between strength and endurance training for cyclists.....

Joint Moments in Cycling

Project:              Diploma Thesis Malte Wangerin
Time period:       04/2006 - 12/2006

By analysing a programme code, this study surveys the influence of cadence and power on the joint moments. The results from video analysis, pedal force measurements and the use of a body link model allows insights into the pedalling technique.

Carbon Splints

Project:              Cooperation with Uni Potsdam
Time period:       04/2006 - 07/2006

Mechanical adjuvants from the orthopedic sciences are often used in disabled cycling. The extent to which these devices are helpful was tested with the help of a Paralympics cyclist….

Validation Performance Analysis

Project:              BISP (LD VF07_05_03_2005)
Time period:       2005

What do our tests measure? Do our test values represent your actual performance on the street? At Radlabour, we critically evaluated all our testing methods in detail by comparing our data with mountain and flat time trial athletes – these situations are typical for competitions. Both amateur and professional athletes were assessed during this evaluation…

Feedback -1-

Project:              BISP (VF07_05_02_2005)
Time period:       2005

Does it make sense to pull the pedal? Our pedal force measurement equipment and the feedback-software are able to provide online feedback of actual pedal forces. Why is this helpful?…..

Feedback -2-

Project:              BISP (VF07_05_02_2005)
Time period:       2005

Is it possible to learn the best possible economic pedalling technique? During 13 separate training sessions, we analyzed two groups of cyclists using the feedback-technique in our pedal force measurement system to find out…

Vicon-Motion Project

Project:              Project Radlabor/IFSS
Time period:       02/2002 - 12/2002

It all started with the knee problems of Jan Ullrich. When everyone else was at a loss Jan came to us to use our brand-new Vicon-Motion-System for a motion analysis à la Holywood. This was the start of a project that analyzed, in detail, the real-time movements on the bike for both amateur and professional cyclists…
